After a short biography and characterization of his protagonist and a list of his match and tournament results, the author A. Brinckmann presents a (commented) selection of 50 of his best games. A further 14 uncommented games with remarkable moves conclude the book.

Bogoljubow was a professional chess player, and his greatest triumph came in Moscow in 1925 (first place ahead of Lasker and Capablanca). His fundamentally healthy style of play was primarily positional, while his great tactical skills were particularly evident when he strategically outplayed his opponents. However, his overly optimistic attitude and the resulting frivolous style of play cost him a number of points and was also responsible for fluctuating tournament results.

Anyone who replays his best games will come across a source of edifying entertainment and meaningful instruction.
