Chess Classic
Chess Tigers teacher beats Aronian in simul
Various news from Mainz-Join us!
17.08.2006 - On Wednesday, Levon Aronian played a Chess960 simul on 20 boards. Against the chess loving rock musicians from Finland, Burton and Mige from the band HIM, Aronian showed no mercy. He also won a blindfold Chess960 game against lovely Vaile (see picture), a German actress and singer. The Armenian lost only one game: he lost against Chess Tiger Mike Rosa, who prepares Chess960 lessons for the Chess Tigers University and has a very profound knowledge about this exciting chess variant. Aronian granted three draws: to Gavin Greif, the eight-year old who also drew against Anand one day before, to Lukas Krause and Christian Bossert. The final score: +16=3-1.

Champions Dinner
One of the most important events during the Chess Classic is the traditional Champions Dinner, for special guests, sponsors and players. The dinner was sponsored by Clerical Medical this year. One of the highlights was the performance by German singer Vaile, who sang two of her owns songs: “By my side” and “Might be better”. In the afternoon she sat together with Burton, keyboard player from the band HIM, and they decided to perform an extra song together, the HIM classic “Join me”.

Cheers! Chess Tigers cocktails.
There are not many chess organisations who have their own wine or cocktails! The delicious white wine which is presented at the Champions Dinner is named “Fischer´s tears of joy”. (Fischer´s Freudentränen) And something new was presented this year: two Chess Tigers cocktails.

“Jump”: 4 cl Dry Gin, 2 cl lime juice, 1 teespoon golden syrup and dash Blue Curacao.

And the non-alcoholic drink:

“Ninesixty”: 6 cl Maracuja juice, 2 cl Lemon juice, 2 cl Pineapple juice, Bitter Lemon

Enjoy!
